Blog 5 Mason Carr

Well I think the part where astrid say she's pregnant is funny and important. The reason it’s important is because it has Dean stay at the store because of it. Dean leaves his brother because of the event. With this you have to create another book to see what happens. Its going to be tough with the baby because it’s going to cry and attract people. It will be harder for astrid to walk and get where she needs to. There going to have to take care of the baby every minute or so. So all in all its pretty important.

"You’re an a-hole." he said under his breathe quietly. I thought this was funny because it was written in a awkward place. Brayden and Dean was having “fun”. Brayden’s type of fun was bulling. He took Dean’s notebook away from him when he saw him writing in it as usual. Dean kept trying to get it back from Brayden, but that didn’t seem to happen until Niko or someone else yelled for him to drop it. Brayden saying he was just playing around but this person yelling at him just didn’t like it. It was more “Im getting very annoyed that you do that in the middle of a crisis” type of yelling. He did finally drop it. And Dean, he was wanting to punch Brayden but instead he said "You’re an a-hole." I thought it was amusing since there really wasn't any funny parts at the moment. But I was really into the book, so that gave me some laughter.

I choose the part where Dean finds out about Astrid being pregnant, because it is funny and nerve racking, because of Dean's reaction. Dean's reaction was like priceless off how I understood it. He was shocked, surprised, and many more. It was funny because of his expressions then what he did He was more shocked because he had no idea he never even thought about that's why she had a bump on her stomach. Also it was nerve racking, because Astrid wanted to stay behind and wanted him to also and he did because he didn't want her to stay by herself and because to make everyone else safer because of his type of blood.

Justice, what was an important event or a funny event?

I chose the part where Astrid finds Sahalia with Robbie in his bed practically naked and Astrid has a gun pointed at his chest and she calls for Jake, Dean, Niko, and Brayden to come over and they see Sahaila and they start watching Robbie while Niko goes to get something, then Robbie takes the gun from Jake then shoots Brayden in the shoulder and hits Niko in the jaw with the gun then Josie shoots Robbie and then they take care of Brayden. I choose that one because it is important event in the book because this is when everyone comes together and helps one another. I also thought that it was a good thing that they all tried to protect one another.

Monument 14 1st part

In the first part of the book of Monument 14 is they are rushing to the bus stop for school they get on the school bus and start to drive to school. On the way something happened hail as big a soccer balls started to fall out of the sky and hit the two buses. One bus spun into greenways entrance and the other bus spun into the light pull. And a lot of kids died and then one of the buses caught on fire which was the one with Dean on it. Niko started to help Mrs. Wooly get people out of the bus and Niko saved Dean from the fire. After that Mrs. Wooly drove the bus back into the store and got the kids out of the bus and into the Pizza shop that was in the Greenway Store.
And then at that point there is now Mrs. Wooly and 14 kids from 2 buses. After that happened she told them that she was going to go to the hospital and see if she could get help for Josie which was in shock from getting hit in the head from a hail ball. So Mrs. Wooly went to go for help and the kids got cleaned up and ate pizza. Dean tried to get Josie to eat and drink but she just sat there and did nothing, she stared off in space. Then Dean started to think about Astrid and how beautiful she was.
Then later on in the book there was an earthquake and it knocked everything off the shelves and the store became a mess. And then they voted on who should be in charge and everyone voted on Niko and then Niko said the first thing they need to do was to clean the store up. so he assigned sections of the store to certain people. And they got the store cleaned up in like a day or two.

Well in the first half of the book these kids are going going to school then a massive hail storm comes. Then they all get trapped in the greenway store. There teacher goes to find help so they're left alone. So they have to find ways so they can live in the store. Then a humongous smoke cloud comes. The smoke does something to you depending what blood type they are. So they have to find ways to keep the smoke from getting to them.

In the book Monument 14, it starts out with a friendly stroll inside a bus. Then it started hailing which made the bus crash into a light pole. A lot of the seats came off/ apart plus the windows were busted, the bus was on its side which became the "boardwalk"Dean was stuck hiding under a bus seat. Niko was kind of saving everyone and he had to slap him to his senses.
After Ms. Wooly brought every kid to the closest place [the mall - greenway store]. She went off to get help leaving the big kids in charge. While she was gone, a earthquake happened. It destroyed everything. They had to fix/clean the store so that way it would be able to be "livable" because they knew that it might take Ms. Wooly a while.
A wave of smoke came in. Dean was severely affected by it. On the news, the TV was statically and had a crushed screen but still usable, the reporter said to cover all windows and doors. Anything that can let the smoke in. Astrid, Alex, Niko, Jake, Brayden, Dean and maybe others were eon top of the roof while a greenish and blackish huge wave of smoke came from NORAD. As it hovered over them, almost all of them turned into something different. Dean-type O blood- deranged and vicious. Niko-grew blisters. All of them had different types of symptoms towards the smoke because of their blood type. Some didn't have any because their type was maybe type B.

Interesting thing

The most interesting thing is the big hailstorm. When the volcanoes erupted and created a hailstorm. I think its cool because they all get trapped in the greenway shop. Then they have to find ways to survive. It was also the most devastating out of everything. Then the black smoke came and that was pretty cool It was weird how it made people go crazy because of their blood type. Which can make you get big blister things that can kill you. Or you can go insane. Or just be perfectly fine. Then it got really creepy when that crazy guy came to their store.

How does your setting affect your story’s mood? Mason Carr

Well in a way the setting makes the mood happy. Because the setting is inside a store. If you are inside a store you have all the supplies you need. Like water, food, and a lot more. If you were someone outside it would be a lot harder to survive. But in other hands the mood is sad because of the hail storm and the smoke. This is sad because both of these things can kill you. Which makes it terrifying for the kids because they don’t know if there parents are alive or not. I don’t think anyone would want to be in their situation.

What i thought was exiting- justice

i think that the most exicting event is when they were in the bathroom and chole had teeth in maxs head. i choose this event because i like thriller and stuff that gets under my skin and that you didn't expect it coming. I choose it because i didn't think that the chemicals could do that and it supraised me that chemicals could do thatg like make everyone crazy and then a couple hours later everyone is fine.

Most Exciting Part

I think the most exciting part in the book so far is when the kids went to go on a bathroom and when they went to wash their hands and something went wrong. The thing that went wrong is that the chemical they got blocked out got into the water system and they got the chemical on them and they started to go crazy. I thought this was the most exciting part so far because all the kids went nuts, but it also was because how they handled it was cool. They like all got a person and roped them down and Batiste wasn't breathing and they had to do CPR on him and I just thought that was really cool that they knew how to handle it so like fast and weren't like freaking out.

What I thought was interesting was that the night before the ceremony. Brayden, Jake, and Sahalia were a bit woozy because they were drunk. One of the boys had a flask with alcohol and poured it in their drink, which was a big cup of blue and red slushy mixed. Sahalia was only 13 and the boys were much older than her. Ever since they arrived at Green Way, Sahlia has been dressing up like shes older and trying to flirt with the “Big Boys” with makeup and acting not herself. Acting like a stuck up, thinks shes all that. I really didn’t expect them to go that far which my guess is because they were tired of being miserable and stuck inside the store so they decided to “drink their sorrows”.

Setting

The setting affects the mood by how the people act to things. Like when they found out they couldn't go home the little kids were scared and the big kids were trying to calm them down. And when the bus started to catch fire they didn't run they stayed to help people out. So the setting is dark and the mood is scared for the little kids and the big kids are sort of calm but worried. So mainly when something bad happens the kids are in a panic attack and the big kids are trying to calm them down and fix the problems that are going on so no one else gets hurt.

Blog Post #2

The mood is like a dark and scary situation. The setting with the kids inside the GreenWay grocery store or Mall, fits ok with the mood, I would say. It gives off a good sensation of you being on the edge of your seat sometimes. It is like The Walking Dead, which is good because a lot of people like that show. The little kids are always screaming until they get calmed down with cookies, games, candy, and FOOD. Obviously. With the big kids, they are much calmer than the little kids until they get hurt themselves or someone other big kid that they would have to help.
the setting affects the mood because everyone is scared and they are trying to find a way to survive. the reason i think that the setting affects the mood because people are dieing from the chemicals released by NORAD. And i also think that the reason why is because they are scared to death that they might not ever see their parents again. So the setting is dark and the mood is scared for the little kids and the big kids are sort of calm but worried. And that is why I think that the setting acffets the mood by making everyone scared out of their minds and trying everything what they can.

Describe the Main Character

The main character in my book monument 14 is a boy his name is Dean. As it says in the book Dean is slim and tall. He's shy because he doesn't want to talk to Astrid the girl he likes. A lot of things are funny when they are serious. He is a little bit good with kids and is brave. He's not very strong but is smart.
